One frosty morning in March, six-year-old Majken disappears without a trace outside her home in Söder, Stockholm. Detective Inspector Árni Wolf, who previously worked with child investigations, is quickly assigned to the case.

That same evening, a blond seven-year-old Danish girl is found after being hit by a car on a country road just outside the city. She appears to have fled barefoot in her thin summer dress through the forest. She whispers a name: Majken.

As Detective Inspector Wolf deals with the loss of a loved one and his own stubborn OCD demons, he finds himself racing against time. He must find Majken at all costs and solve the case before more girls get hurt. The clues soon lead him down unexpected paths and a perpetrator worse than anything he could have imagined emerges from the shadows.

The Disappearance is the second instalment of Ivener’s new crime series about Detective Inspector Árni Wolf, published in spring 2026.
