DEA SARACEVIC

DEA SARACEVIC has a solid background in film and has been a part of the industry since 2008. She has worked as a Director's Assistant, Casting Director and as a Producer for various short films, commercials, music videos as well as developed various drama projects for film and tv.

Dea’s long ranging CV of productions include Josef Fares’ “Farsan”, the mega hit TV series “Bron/The Bridge”, Anna Odell's Venice Film Festival awarded “Återträffen/The Reunion” and the multi-award winning short film “JUCK/THRUST” – which, among others won the prestigious Berlinale, SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) and Festival du Nouveau Cinéma.

She is currently studying screenwriting at the reputable Alma Scriptwriting Academy, graduating early 2024. At the moment, she is developing an original tv series named "Branko", the feature film "Buy Me" and a short film called "Lucy" – to be shot during Spring 2024. “Lucy” is about the secret lives of two 11-year old girls, a secrecy that is bound to be broken and change their worlds forever.

Her short documentary “Silver City” (20 mins, shot on location in New Mexico, USA) will premiere in late 2023 or early 2024. In a series of brief yet sincere encounters, we are reminded that the most emotional experiences are both timeless and universal.

In her work she explores themes like social structures, public expectations, prejudice and class. She is drawn to intimate family dramas, where lack of communication is central to the story. She considers film to be the optimal art form where one can use different languages simultaneously; words, sounds and image. Her goal as a filmmaker is to create a vivid world you can easily follow and would want to be a part of.

Dea finds inspiration from her own experiences with parents from former Yugoslavia and a traveling father who called himself a “European” more than a country citizen. Her background has made her somewhat rootless and responsive to changes, new people and new places. She was an only child traveling between countries from an early age.

Dea is all about the power of imagination and capturing the blur between dream and reality. When working as a screenwriter and director this duality is fundamental to her.
