Anna Gutto
Anna Gutto is known for her entertaining, emotionally resonant and internationally compelling storytelling.
Her feature film debut, Paradise Highway, starring Academy Award winners Juliette Binoche and Morgan Freeman, premiered at the Piazza Grande at the Locarno Film Festival and was hailed by Variety as “a singularly promising debut for a first-time feature filmmaker”. The film was released theatrically in the US by Lionsgate and went straight to number one on Netflix and Hulu.
Anna was the lead director on Emilie Beck's Escaping Bolivia – a series that hit record numbers and a high 90-per-cent viewer completion rate within its first couple of weeks. This builds on her TV directing debut as one of the directors on the first season of the Netflix hit Home for Christmas.
Anna began her career in the theatre, first in Norway and later in New York, where she earned critical acclaim for bringing Nobel Laureate Jon Fosse to American audiences. Their work was hailed as “universally excellent” by The New York Times. They went on to produce multiple US premieres of Fosse’s work, establishing a lasting transatlantic cultural bridge. She earned her MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University, where she graduated with honours.
Anna's work is driven by a commitment to entertaining audiences through vibrant characters, engaging stories, and the power of cinematic storytelling. She is known for collaborating with world-class talent, and for moving fluidly between European and American markets.
