Erika Wasserman has an extensive background as a producer and debuted as a director in 2022 with the comedy drama The Year I Started Masturbating. The film received glowing reviews in both Sweden and Denmark, with critics calling it “The sweetest Swedish romantic comedy in years” (Aftonbladet). The Year I Started Masturbating has been top ten on Netflix in 66 countries, with a total of 32 million hours streamed worldwide. A prestigious Guldbagge Award nomination for “Best Actress” was awarded to the film for Katia Winter’s performance.

The last ten years Erika has produced some of Sweden’s most captivating films, including Border (2018), The Quiet Roar (2014), Bluebird (2013), Avalon (2011), and Man tanker sitt (2009). Possessing a keen eye for poignant stories and artistic excellence, she has helped shape the careers of some of Sweden’s leading contemporary film directors. In 2013, Erika was named “Producer on the Move” in Cannes, and she has also served as commissioner for the Swedish Film Institute. Erika founded the production company Gimme a Break in 2014.

Wasserman is currently working on her next feature film and a comedy TV series.
