Alexander Karim is a Swedish actor, author, screenwriter and director. He has starred in over sixty productions, with leading roles in big Hollywood productions, major European shows and several Swedish films and productions. He has been a pioneering actor in Sweden, becoming the first black actor to play the lead in both a big budget TV production and a feature film. Alexander was also the first black actor to lead Shakespeare in Love in Sweden, which he did on the biggest stage in the country.

Alexander grew up on film sets and has since nurtured a love for the art of cinema. From starting out mopping floors and making coffee, to doing makeup, wardrobe and casting, he has built his career from the ground up to where he is today: writing, acting, producing and directing.

Alexander Karim has worked with directors and writers like Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull). He also stars in The Swarm, a series produced by Frank Doelger, an executive producer of Game of Thrones.

Alexander has directed the feature film The Last Day, as well as the musical Little Women at the Ballet Academy in Stockholm, which was a huge success with rave reviews. He has also co-directed the Cannes nominated short The Apple Tree.

As a screenwriter, Alexander has co-written the TV show Familjen Babajou (SVT) and several short films. As a novelist, Alexander has written The Extraordinary Tale of Jonas Paulsson’s All Too Sudden Death. His latest novel, Spotlight, was published in 2025.
