Axel Stjärne had a dream come true when, shortly after graduating from film school, his final project Get Ready with Me won an Oscar (Student Academy Award) for Best Student Film in 2018. The way this sophisticated thriller pulls its audience to the edge of their seats with its complex characters and bold turning points is a great example of Axel’s strengths as a writer. To boil it down, Axel is allergic to dull moments and always strives to entertain, whether it be by inspiring his audience to root for a couple in love, cover their eyes in fear, or marvel at a fascinating life story. When it comes to his preferred process, Axel is far from the solitary writer. He revels in pushback from producers and directors, the more frustrating the meeting, the more creative he gets on his way home.

Axel works in a wide range of genres and formats: as a creator, head writer, storyliner, and episode writer. Most recently, he served as the head writer for the crime drama Maffia, which was named one of the best TV shows of 2025 by The New York Times. The series premiered at Way Out West in Sweden in August 2026 and will air on Viaplay later this fall.

His previous work includes the Viaplay series Partisan, produced by Warner Bros. Sweden, and Cryptid, produced by Dramacorp. Partisan won the Best Series Award at Canneseries. It premiered in September 2020 and became the most-viewed original series on its launch day on Viaplay.

Although most of his work has been in Swedish, Axel is an experienced and proficient writer in English. He has an Honours Degree (First Class) in Journalism from the University of London. Upon graduation, he was named the Highest Achieving Journalism Student.
