Daniel Alfredson is an award-winning Swedish director, screenwriter, and producer with significant international acclaim. We primarily know him as the director of two films in the world-famous Millennium trilogy, including The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009) and its sequel The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009). These films were nominated in no fewer than seven categories at festivals around the world, with two wins from New York Film Critics Online. In 2010, Daniel also directed a mini-series based on the trilogy and was awarded an Emmy for Best Mini-Series, a Crystal (Swedish Emmy) for Best Television Drama and a Golden Nymph for lead-actress Rapace’s outstanding performance.

His feature debut was the criminal drama Roseanna (1993) followed by The Man on the Balcony (1993). Both based on the bestselling novels with the same name, written by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. The Man on the Balcony earned nominations in three categories, including Best Film, and it won a Guldbagge (Swedish Oscar) for Best Script. In 1997, the drama thriller Tic Tac was released — a feature that put Daniel’s name on the map globally. The film won three Guldbagge Awards, including Best Film and Best Director.

After working for a few years as a producer at one of Sweden’s biggest broadcasters, SVT, Daniel decided to take his work abroad. He directed the criminal action-drama Kidnapping Mr. Heineken (2015) a story based on true events that took place in the Netherlands in the 1980’s. His next film was the thriller Blackway (2015). During this period, Daniel met producer Rick Dugdale at Enderby Entertainment. Together, they created Intrigo — a three-part anthology based on short stories written by the best-selling Swedish author Håkan Nesser. Daniel both directed and co-wrote the script together with his wife, Birgitta Bongenhielm. The first part, Death of an Author, premiered in 2018 and became a huge success. Part two and three, Dear Agnes and Samaria, both premiered in 2019.

Currently, Daniel is developing a new international hit as well as a new feature and a drama series for a large Swedish production company.
