LINDA RAKKA

LINDA RAKKA lives by the waters of the famed Göta Canal, and it was from this idyllic environment that she drew the inspiration for her cozy crime series ‘Murders by Göta Canal’, praised for its suspense, colourful characters and the combination of the macabre tone with the luscious landscape.

Debuting in 2022, BLUE BELLS CHIMING AT NIGHT quickly turned into a reader favourite and a bestseller sensation. In 2023, she published the standalone sequel, SWALLOWS DRAWING IN THE SKY. The third part in the series, SNOWANGELS FLY AT DUSK will be published by Bokfabriken in 2024.

A body is found near Bergs locks along the Göta Canal, and the innkeepers Betsy and Sam are in a hurry to keep their dark double life a secret, especially from the curious and not always friendly neighbours.

Meanwhile, at the nearby Sparvedal Castle, an unexpected relative arrives, affecting the entire community. What is hidden in snow risks being revealed in the thaw – the clock is ticking towards Christmas, and no one in Sparvdalen is safe.

Linda Rakka's unforgettable characters, and her way of portraying nature until it becomes like a character of its own, are a refreshing addition to the genre. A Swedish Midsomer Murders – with a twist!

Part one in the cosy-crime series ‘Murders by Göta Canal’

Betsy and Sam run a boarding house in the well-visited summer idyll of Sparvdalen by Göta Canal, but the couple have a dark double life that they do everything to hide.

John has promised his late grandmother to hand over a family heirloom to her sister Iris, who lives in the captain's villa in Sparvdalen. But when he arrives, he discovers that Iris has disappeared without a trace and someone else has moved into the house. John decides to stay behind to investigate what has happened.

Strange things begin to stir and it soon becomes clear that no one is safe anymore. Because who can you really trust if even your closest neighbours aren't who they say they are?

BLUE BELLS CHIMING AT NIGHT is Linda Rakka’s debut and the first part in the cozy-crime series ‘Murders by Göta Canal’. We get to follow the residents of the fictional Sparvdalen area by Göta Canal outside Linköping, where everyone seems to be hiding a secret, or two.
